GLENAFTON Athletic manager Craig McEwan hopes to turn Saturday’s shock West of Scotland Cup exit into a Scottish Cup upset of his own.
The Glens lost 3-2 at home to Girvan as they crashed out in the first round ahead of this weekend’s mouth-watering cup tie against Championship side Livingston at Almondvale.
McEwan said: “Saturday was a bad day at the office for us, individual errors cost us. It was a comedy of errors and we found ourselves 3-0 down having not played particularly badly.
“Every time Girvan went forward they looked like scoring and that’s not like us. We spoke about it after the game.
“It looked liked we were thinking about this Saturday and we weren’t. I only made one change which was forced upon us. I don’t want to be too downbeat but that is not a performance I expect. It was a trophy I wanted to do pretty well in.”
Of Saturday’s historic cup tie, McEwan has a plan of attack.
He said: “We’ve had them watched by both myself and others. What we do know is that they are a very good side.
“We have to make sure we do the right things and hopefully we can cause a shock. The squad is shaping up very well. The only person struggling is Darren McGill.
“Other than Saturday, we’ve been playing well. They are very experienced and are sitting high in the Championship. It is a very good stadium and a very good environment and a lot of my guys have played in that before.
“We want to do ourselves justice and I’ll be happy if we are taking the plaudits.”
