LUGAR Boswell Thistle are preparing for their biggest game in years ahead of their Junior Cup tie against Linlithgow Rose – and they’re plotting an upset.

Manager Lauchlan Miller will put his team through their paces with a friendly against Cumnock on Thursday night in preparation for the match.

Speaking to the Chronicle, Miller said: “It’s still a young squad and they are relishing the opportunity to take on Linlithgow. There is no pressure on Lugar on Saturday.

“Hopefully we can pull off what would probably be the biggest upset in the cup this weekend. The boys have been training really hard and we will give a good account of ourselves.

“We’re looking forward to it. It’s probably the biggest game for a good number of years at Rosebank. Linlithgow are a club of good pedigree with a good support so it doesn’t happen very often.”

Lugar haven’t played a competitive game this month and their last two home games have been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Miller added: “The park is heavy and it’s not had a chance to recover. We are going to do everything we can to get the park ready for Saturday.

“Hopefully we can get a bit of support and assistance from the local community because it’s a big game. You don’t get the same kind of support for just a league game.”

Lugar have added former Muirkirk player Ross Ballantyne to the squad and are hopeful of arranging a loan deal for Troon’s Chris Vance in time for Saturday.
