CUMNOCK boss John McKeown was delighted with his players' reaction after they bounced back from their weekend West of Scotland Cup final defeat against Pollok by progressing to their third semi-final of the season.

They defeated Super League First Division champions Girvan 4-1 at Townhead Park to reach the last four of the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup.

He said afterwards: "I felt we started the game but we fell out of it for the last 25 minutes of the first half. But at half-time we had a wee word and tweaked our shape a bit and we were excellent after the break. We missed a few chances as well.

"The West defeat was a sore one for the boys to take and I have never hurt so much after a game. But we bounced back and that's us in the semi-finals of the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup after reaching the semi-finals of the Ardagh Glass Cup and we reached the final of the West.

"We don't want this season to peter out, we have had too good a season and the boys want to win a medal. We must focus on the semi-final against Beith.

"This club is a big club and we should be competing for everything. Fingers crossed we can keep progressing the way we are."
