CUMNOCK’S Karl Pring defied the odds to produce a fighting finish in his latest bike race.

Businessman Karl of KCP, which is based at Benson Smithy, and passenger Chris Bonsall were competing in a 600cc Formula 2 sidecar event.

It took place as part of the quest for North East Motorcyle Racing Club (NEMRC) Championship points, but Karl and Chris’s day did not start well.

Setting off for the qualifying round they had a puncture and, although it was quickly repaired, the delay meant they missed the session.

Consequently, they had to start at the back of the grid in all their four races but, despite this, they produced an amazing performance in their first race.

Battling their way through a field of nine other pairs to finish third, a feat they achieved again in their second race.

This was followed by a fourth and fifth spot in the remaining races which was remarkable given that they had to come from the back each time.

The two days of racing were held at East Fortune Raceway, near Haddington and the picture is courtesy of Squinty Images.
