ADAM HALL and Peter Mills’ bid to win the men’s doubles title at the Scottish Open Grand Prix ended in disappointment at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena this afternoon.

Mauchline badminton star Hall and his partner came within two points of victory when they stood at 19-19 in the second game after taking the first 21-15 against top seeds and 2014 champions Mathias Christiansen and David Daugaard.

But the Danes snatched the second game 21-19 to force the decider and went on to take the contest 21-15 after 68 enthralling minutes.

Their win gave Denmark three titles after their men’s and women’s singles triumphs while Malaysia took the women’s and mixed doubles. In contrast 2010 winner Mills was left with the runners-up spot for the second year running after partnering Andy Ellis last year.

But the new paring has only played six tournaments since teaming up in September and they can take this week’s fine form into the forthcoming Welsh and Irish Internationals as the 20-year-old from Mauchline benefits from the experience of his 28-year-old partner from Nottingham.

Mills paid tribute to Hall’s performance this week, saying: “He’s doing really well, a bright star. He’s only 20 and has reached the final of a Grand Prix tournament, Not many players achieve that. He’s done himself proud and done Scotland proud.”

Adam said: “I’m really happy to have been here in the final just to take part. It's been a dream of mine, I've been coming here since I was seven, first as a spectator, then a line judge and now as a player.

“We only found out we were playing together during the Olympics so we have only had four months as a pair together so to get to a final this quick is really good for us but I’m a bit disappointed to be honest.

“It's been one of the longest games that I have had.”
