CUMNOCK boss John McKeown reckons his side have turned a corner after their West of Scotland Cup win.

It's been a difficult start to the campaign for the Townhead side who struggled with their early season form, including a humiliating Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Wishaw.

But following Saturday's emphatic 4-1 victory over Clydebank, McKeown reckons his troops are finally on the right track.

The win saw Nock score four goals for the second game in succession.

But McKeown admits that the Clydebank win flattered his side. He said: "It wasn't a 4-0 game truth be told. The score line flattered us a wee bit in that respect. But then again, we've said a few times this season that the score line flattered our opponents after we lose a game, so I'll take it.

"I really feel that's us starting to turn a corner now. We've scored four again and that's us won three home games in a row. You're home form is so important in this league and I'm just happy to see us continue that."

Clydebank pushed Nock to the wire in last seasons First Division promotion race and McKeown was delighted to make it a hat trick of wins over last terms title challengers. He said: "That's us played the three teams that were all challenging for the title last year and we've beaten them all. We didn't beat any of the top teams last season so it has been good to prove that we are better than them.

"I was happy with the first half performance on Saturday, but we started the second half poorly."

McKeown has been left delighted by the form of forward Scott Anson helped himself to a goal in Saturday's 4-1 win. McKeown said: "Scott did really well. He had a wee bit of a dip in form and he was dropped for a few games. But his attitude has been first class and he told me that he was going to prove to me that he is my number one striker at the club so maybe that has spurred him on a wee bit.

"Sean McKenzie got a goal as well to keep his good form going so it's good that we have boys growing in confidence and scoring goals.

"It was good to see Mark Williams get his first goal for us as well. He has come in from senior football and he's still learning about junior football but that goal would do him a world of good."

After their Scottish Cup defeat to Wishaw, Cumnock will be in league action this weekend when they entertain Troon.

Troon currently sit eighth in the Premier Division, just a single point clear of the Townhead side.

Saturday's game will also see a return to several ex-Nock old boys, including goalie Ally Semple, Chris McKnight and Ryan Nisbet.

Saturday's game kicks off at 2pm.
