TALBOT boss Tommy Sloan says that his side must make the most of a second chance.

The Beechwood gaffer watched his troops salvage a late draw against Beith in the William Hill Scottish Cup to force a replay this weekend.

Talbot opened the scoring through Bryan Young. Beith then fired in two goals to take the lead and Gordon Pope fired home a late equaliser as Sloan breathed a huge sigh of relief.

The Bot gaffer says that he was happy at full time but that his side must improve ahead of Saturday's replay.

He said: "At the finish I was happy, but I was still disappointed with the performance.

"We went behind and we came back well but we have to be better than that.

"You need to be a bit more hungry. There's a lot at stake in these kind of games and I don't think we played like there was.

"I was upset with them and they know that."

Sloan is now hoping that his side can make the most of their second opportunity to progress. He added: "We've got to improve on Saturday if we want to go through. It's a massive opportunity and we want to take it.

"We're just happy to still be in the draw at this point.

Monday saw the draw for the first round proper of the Scottish Cup, with the winners of Talbot and Beith hosting Highland League side Strathspey Thistle in the first round.

Sloan said: "There's a spot in the next round up for grabs here. It's a home tie so that should be incentive to go out and win.

"I don't know an awful lot about Strathspey, but it should be a favourable draw for both ourselves and Beith.

"But first thing's first, we still have to get past Beith. I'm not even thinking about Strathspey until after the Beith game. We need to take care of that business first and then we can look ahead."

The boss was boosted by the news that his side have finally been handed a home cup tie. He added: "It's a good draw for us. It would be a home game which we don't seem to get many of these days. We seem to be constantly handed away ties and and it's good that we would finally be at home if we can go through."

Elsewhere in the first round draw, Ayrshire side Girvan were drawn at home to Huntly. East region giants Linlithgow Rose were drawn away to Selkirk.

In perhaps the most difficult tie of the round, Wick Academy were handed a nightmare trip to Dalbeattie Star. It pits the most northern team against the most southern team, with Wick now facing a 700-mile round trip.

Talbot host Beith in the preliminary round replay on Saturday at Beechwood Park with a 2pm kick off.

A win on Saturday would set up the tie against Strathspey on Saturday September 24.
