ONE Talbot star shrugged off months of frustration to net the winner against his old team on Saturday.

Former Cumnock ace Robert Love climbed off the bench on Saturday to put his old pals to the sword and he now hopes it was enough to force Talbot boss Tommy Sloan in to picking him for his starting line up.

Love netted the third goal in Saturday's 3-0 win over Cumnock in the bumper derby clash. A goal from Graham Wilson and a wonder strike from Gordon Pope set Talbot well on their way to victory, but it was Love who put the final nail in the coffin of his old team when he bagged a third goal with almost the last kick of the match.

The Talbot forward said: "I was delighted. It was so sweet to score against one of your old teams. The Cumnock fans had been giving me a wee bit of stick when I came on so I really enjoyed it.

"When I left Cumnock I just felt that I needed a new challenge. Tucker had tried to sign me last January but it didn't work out. When he came back in for me in the summer I couldn't say no. I left Cumnock on good terms but I really enjoyed my goal."

Love got on the end of a James Latta cross ball to knock the ball home and put the tie beyond doubt as Love sparked jubilant celebrations.

He added: "I don't really remember how I felt when I got the goal. It was just brilliant.

"I was a wee bit disappointed not to start the game and Tucker went with Gillies and Wilson. We wo the game and progressed though, so no complaints from me with that.

"Saturday was a local derby but it was just about getting through to the next round.

"They are going in the right direction and doing well. I'd love to see them back in the Premier Division. The atmosphere was brilliant. There must have been about 2,000 at the game so we really enjoyed that."

Of his time at Talbot, Love added: "It's been frustrating but it's been enjoyable as well. I would like to start more often but if keep coming on and scoring then hopefully I can play my way in to the managers plans for the rest of the season."
