AYRSHIRE DISTRICT LEAGUE

KELLO ROVERS 1 WHITLETTS VICTORIA 1

TAKING account of how little football these teams have played due to the horrendously wet winter, both teams should take great pride for the entertaining ‘end to end’ Ayrshire District League match they served up in front of a decent crowd on a bitterly cold day.

Whitletts made the better start to the match but it was the Rovers who took an early lead on just 8 minutes when Whitletts’ defender Jorden Mullen stretched for a cross and in doing so guided the ball past his own ‘keeper, McInnes to make it 1-0.

Whitletts got a deserved equaliser on 39 minutes when Lee McCrea played the ball into the penalty area for Chris Black to run onto and round the advancing Ryan Dunsmuir before cutting the ball back from the bye line for Sean Ewart to roll the ball into the empty net.

Early in the second half there was a sickening accidental clash of heads between Kello’s Hill and Whitletts' Anderson which saw Hill heading towards Dumfries Hospital and Anderson heading towards Ayr Hospital.

Kello probably had the edge in the second half and right on 90 minutes Shaw made time for himself in the Vics’ box to hit a tremendous shot from which McInnes made a tremendous save followed immediately by an even more spectacular save as he scrambled back to push the ball over the bar as it was dropping into the net from his initial save.

Both sides will be able to point to missed chances but undoubtedly a point apiece was a fair outcome.
