CUMNOCK seemed to have finally turned the corner following a stuttering league start and boss John McKeown has targeted a cup win to keep the momentum going.
It was a rude awakening for Nock as they opened their First Division title tilt with a crushing 4-0 defeat away to Greenock. That was followed up with a home defeat to Kilsyth Rangers as the Townhead side adjusted to life following relegation.
Now, with back to back league wins and a victory in the Scottish Cup under their belt, McKeown, pictured left,  reckons there’s much more to come from his side this term.
Nock helped themselves to a hard fought 3-1 win at home to Blantyre Vics on Saturday.
The Townhead gaffer said: “It was much needed. We have ironed out a few weaknesses in our game in the last few weeks and we seem to finally be clicking.”
Following his sides slow start, McKeown said: “I think it had a lot to do with the fact that we have 13 new players and they are all trying to adjust and get used to playing with each other. It was always going to take time for things to click. It’s not easy.
“The first game against Greenock looks like a bad scoreline but we had lots of good chances and just never took them. But we are scoring goals now and I think there is more to come from us.”
McKeown was left pleased with the spine of his team at the weekend. He said: “It was a good team performance overall but the core of the team, our centre halves, in to midfield and up front were excellent.
“The boys have a bit of a spring in their step now and we have to take that into the Johnstone Burgh game in the cup on Saturday now.”
The Nock boss has to wait and see if two of his stars will be fit enough for Saturday’s game. Kieran Downs picked up a thigh strain in Saturday’s win and Kieran Wood has a niggling foot injury.
