In their penultimate Stagecoach Ayrshire District League game of the season Kello travelled to face Craigmark Burntonians.

With a stiff Station Park breeze behind their back Kello were expected to dominate this. However, this failed to happen with the ‘Mark getting the ball down and playing the passing game but with no final product.

On the one occasion the Kello defence failed to connect with the ball Lloyd Murphy found himself one on one with Dunsmuir. The striker tried to side step the big ‘keeper as he went to ground but the ‘keeper stuck out a hand and dragged the ball away to save a certain goal.

Kello not to be outdone put a ball through to Thomson in an offside position but the flag stayed down but the diminutive striker failed to take the advantage hitting straight at ‘keeper, Stevie Douglas.

Kello earned a series of corners and from one a speculative shot took a deflection and Hampson knocked passed the outstretched arm of Douglas but the referee indicated offside. Kello had another claim for a penalty turned down when Thomson took a tumble in the box.

Kello were getting more into the game but Craigmark stalwart, Steph Holland, was keeping his young defence well marshalled and half time arrived without any scoring.

The second half started with Craigmark taking advantage of the wind and Douglas’s big kick out but Shaw sitting at the centre of defence was mopping up all that came his way.

Kello were coping better with the wind in the second half getting the ball down and playing the low ball and were starting to find a way forward. A ball out left found Pagan who avoided a challenge and sent in a low ball for midfielder Kennedy to stroke home the opening goal.

Midfielders Patterson and Kennedy were extremely busy winning and distributing the ball although not always successfully.  The aforementioned Thomson made way for Anderson and Craigmark veteran Holland was also replaced.

Another ball out left was met again by Pagan and from his ball into the box Milne somehow managed to score despite the attempts of the ‘keeper and a defender to make it 0-2.

Craigmark were starting to tire a little and Kello were attacking more, but it was the Dalmellington side who made their mark with Kello falling to clear their lines a shot through a ruck of players found its way into the net to make it 1-2.

All hopes of a Craigmark comeback were dashed straight away as Kello hit back immediately. Once again a foray down the left and a cross ball evaded Douglas and fell to Hampson to stroke home from eight yards to make it 1-3.

Kello were not finished however as Man of the Match, Geoff Patterson, battled for the ball and hit his shot off the underside off the bar but to his dismay the ball bounced outwards and his outstretched arms celebration turned to one of disbelief.
