GOING for glory in his dad's home town in Ayrshire this weekend is a cyclist who has designs on landing a place in the Scotland team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Gary Hand, 30, is gearing up to compete in the Tour Doonhame, a two-day three-stage cycle road race which comes to Girvan from Castle Douglas on Sunday before concluding in Annan on Easter Monday.
The race is part of British Cycling's Premier Calendar Series of Elite Road Racing events.
Hand is a member of the Pedal Power-Endura-Forme Racing team supported by Endura Racing, who are currently ranked number one in Europe.
He has a special link with Girvan and is relishing the opportunity to return to the town where his dad James grew up.
He explained: "Dad is always going on about Girvan and how it was a great place to grow up.
"I still have family in the area so it'll be great to go there and compete."
