A GLASGOW swimming pool could still be under threat as part of future budget cuts.

Glasgow Life has refused to rule out plans to close Drumchapel pool, months after leisure bosses confirmed there are no plans to replace the centre with a new facility.

Details of what Glasgow Life plan to do with the centre are expected early next year, once the budget has been decided.

But Labour councillor Paul Carey, who has been campaigning for a new leisure centre, has called for answers.

He said: “If indeed it is true that Drumchapel Swimming Pool is to be shut down it is a disgrace and betrayal to the people of Drumchapel and Blairdardie.

“Glasgow Life recently spent £100,000 on a new roof and over the last couple of years have spent tens of thousands renewing inside the swimming pool.

“The people of Drumchapel feel absolutely shocked and angered by this decision and I am calling on Glasgow Life and Councillor David McDonald the SNP chair to reverse these cuts as a matter of urgency.”

A spokesman for Glasgow Life said: “No decisions have been made. Budget options will be presented early next year.”

Glasgow Life confirmed that it won’t have an indication of its budget until the draft Scottish budget in December.
