ED SHEERAN played three nights at Hampden Park but nobody knew he played for real on his final night right outside the Evening Times HQ.

I was on Ed watch for all the time he was here and even chatted with some of the Les Hoey Dreammaker kids who met him before his show inside Hampden.

Ed remained pretty elusive in between his gigs, choosing to stay out of the city and having a police convoy escort him onto the motorway. He stayed in a country mansion away from prying eyes.

But, I can reveal Ed decided to let his hair down on his final night with singer Anne-Marie.

The two stars decided it would be best to travel into the centre of town for some play time and somehow managed to remain undetected as they made their way up Sauchiehall Street and on to Renfield Street.

They and their team took over The Flying Duck for an after-show party and spent the best part of the night in there with their entourage, emerging in the wee small hours.

One of Ed’s biggest fans Cian Kilday, 7, from Maryhill, had been out looking for him with his dad Michael and couldn’t believe it when he stumbled across him on his way home from the gig.

Michael said: “My dad loved Ed Sheeran but died suddenly on my stag do, the day before Father’s Day. To mark his passing the first dance at my wedding was Perfect. It was incredible we bumped into Ed on our way home. It must have been my dad looking down on us.”
