A STOLEN vehicle was rammed into a city nightclub by two fire thugs.

Police are now investigating the suspicious fire which happened at The Sanctuary nightclub on Dumbarton Road in Glasgow's West End.

Police say the car reversed into the premises at around 11.40pm last night. Two men then got out of the car, a grey coloured VW Tiguan, believed to be stolen.

Police Scotland initially said the premises was set on fire but further enquiries revealed that the car was damaged by the blaze. The club has only had slight superficial damage to the building.

The suspects then got into a blue Audi RS3 which drove off from the location.

This vehicle was later recovered by officers in Strachur Crescent, Lambhill and will undergo extensive forensic examination.

No-one was injured and the club was closed at the time of the incident.

Officers are in the process of gathering CCTV footage for review and will be carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

The Sanctuary nightclub released a statement on Facebook confirming that it will be business as usual this weekend.

The club said: "We can confirm that last night a car crashed outside The Sanctuary. The club was closed at the time and thankfully no one was injured.

"There has been no damage to the club. We will be open as usual this weekend. Friday, Saturday and Sunday."

The club's boss Chris Lessani also reassured clubbers that they would be operating tonight.

He said: "The Sanctuary is still here and will be ready to open as usual tonight and the rest of the weekend!

"It was not open last night and there were no injuries which is the main thing!

"Thanks for all the messages of support in Sanctuary's time of need!

"See you all this weekend."

Detective Inspector Mark McLennan said: “Our enquiries are at an early stage and we are working to establish why this property has been targeted. Fortunately, the club was closed and there have been no injuries, however, it is imperative we trace whoever is responsible for this crime.

“This is a busy road and I’m appealing to motorists, taxi drivers, anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to contact us.

"You may have seen either of the vehicles and noticed the occupants and you could have information which could assist our investigation.

"Even if you think what you saw or know is not important, please pass it on. Let us assess the relevancy of the information as it could help us establish a motive for this crime and lead us to whoever is responsible.”

Anyone with information is asked to call officers at Drumchapel CID via 101, quoting incident number 4210/27. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
