AN elderly lady has died following a car crash in Catrine last week.

Police are now appealing for more information following the smash on Monday August 17 at around 11.50am.

A 79 year old man, his 76 year old wife and her sister aged 78, were travelling north on the A76 Howford Bridge near the B713, Catrine, when his car - a blue Ford Focus - collided with a red Seat Altea travelling south.

All three were taken by ambulance to Ayr Hospital and later released.

The 32 year old female driver of the Seat Altea was not injured.

On Thursday August 20, the 78 year old rear seat passenger in the Ford Focus was admitted to Ayr Hospital after taking unwell at home and she died a short time later.

A post mortem will take place to establish the cause of her death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Kevin Blackley, Irvine Road Policing Unit, said: “At the time of the crash – it was believed that all three passengers of the Ford Focus had suffered minor injuries and were released after treatment. This may obviously still be the case and there may another reason as to her illness, however, because she was involved in the collision a few days prior to her death we are appealing for witnesses who saw it happen at the time.

“Anyone who saw the crash or has any information that will assist officers with their enquiry is asked to contact road policing officers at Irvine via the non-emergency number 101.” Details of the deceased will not be released until relatives are aware.
