AT last there’s good news for Cumnock commuters.

With Stagecoach recently axing its Cumnock depot and several key routes, the firm has announced plans for an extra service to run between Cumnock and Kilmarnock on Sunday mornings.

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) and Stagecoach have agreed to run the extra service as a way of allowing local commuters to access the interchange service for Glasgow.

Outgoing Carrick, Cumnock & Doon Valley MSP, Adam Ingram, has welcomed the news after having several discussions about bus services in the area.

It is proposed the X76B service will depart from Cumnock Bus Station at 8.25am with a connection at Kilmarnock Station for the Glasgow service at 9.30am.

Commenting on the decision, Mr Ingram said: “Whilst this has been a very lengthy campaign with the public transport providers it has provided a victory for the local area. It was frankly ludicrous that there was no service available and my concern was that employment opportunities were being turned down due to the lack of direct and convenient public transport.

“Given that many people in the Cumnock area find they need to travel to Glasgow for employment and given that working patterns are increasingly reflecting our demand for 24 hours a day, seven days a week, services it is vital that our transport links reflect this.

“I am very pleased that both SPT and Stagecoach have listened to and acted upon my request for the additional service.” The service will be effective from October 4.
