FIREFIGHTERS who were called to Auchinleck Leisure Centre’s summer club were in no hurry.

There was no emergency and the only people shocked by their appearance were the children in attendance at the club, who had not been told that the crew from Cumnock fire station were paying a visit.

The youngsters had great fun finding out first-hand about fire safety and getting hands-on experience from fire crew Alan, Stephen and Lee, with the children being split into three groups with each fire fighter allocated a particular role.

Alan, the senior member of the crew, had a chat with his group about the dangers of fire and stressed the importance of not making prank calls — something that sadly happens all too often in the village.

Stephen gave his group a full demonstration of the fire-engine, allowing them to take turns trying the hose, while Lee gave his group a full tour of the engine.

They were given an explanation of what each piece of equipment was for and able to try on some of the kit, and smoke masks, before letting them climb in the front to sound the sirens and pretend that they were driving the engine.

In addition to the excitement created by the arrival of the fire engine, the children played fun team games and took on gladiator challenges on the huge inflatable, with Alan and Stephen even having a dual.

It all added to a great morning for all with the children — who were educated on fire safety and the importance of not making hoax calls — while also having a great time.
