CUMNOCK cousins Margaret Livingstone and Carolyn Mason are the daughters of twin brothers and ended up taking similar artistic career paths.

Margaret, who graduated in 2008 at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, still lives and works in Ayrshire, has exhibited work throughout Scotland and earned accolades as one of the brightest and best future 500 rising stars at the Observer Awards, as well as a winning entry in the Scottish National Art Competition.

She has developed a distinctive style which starts with an oil painting and adds hand-sculpted objects to illustrate a theme, and currently works and lives in Ayrshire.

Carolyn graduated from Camberwell School of Art in London in 1986, has exhibited across the UK and Poland, and also uses objects in her work, by twisting them and re-creating them. A founding member of Stirling-based artists group, Hanging Together, she was a member of the Scottish Society of Artists.

They are getting together again for an exhibition featuring both their work, which will take place at East Kilbride Arts Centre, from August 6 to August 30, between 10am and 8pm each day. Admission is free, visit www.slleisureandculture.co.uk, or call 01355 261000 for more information.
