A MAN brutally threw a helpless dog from a huge viaduct — leaving it with serious injuries.
Ernest Mills hurled the Staffordshire Bull Terrier from the top of the railway bridge near Keir Hardie Hill in Cumnock on April 18.
The tattooed 44-year-old, of Glenshamrock Drive, Auchinleck, admitted the charge when he appeared in Ayr Sheriff Court last week.
Sheriff John Montgomery said: “Throwing a dog off a viaduct is clearly, grossly unacceptable.” The viaduct where the shocking crime was committed looms over the Lugar Water and rises 145 feet above the river.
Mills was charged with causing unnecessary suffering after lobbing the animal from the listed structure.
Sheriff Montgomery called for a social work report to be prepared on Mills’ background before deciding on a punishment.
Mills is due to appear in court again next month to find out his fate.
