THERE was good news this week for the Cumnock Highland Games.
The 2015 edition of the games has been given the green light thanks to grant funding that will now allow organisers to put the wheels in motion.
Doubt was thrown over the future of the event as organisers admitted they were struggling for funding.
The 2015 version, which is one of the highlights of the summer, got the thumbs up after the group were awarded grants from East Ayrshire Council and the Cumnock and Doon Valley Minerals Trust.
The council’s special grants committee met last week to mull over the grant assessment form submitted by the group.
Councillors agreed to hand more than £3,500 towards the games which now means that they WILL now go ahead.
Secretary of the Cumnock Highland Games, Jim McMillan said: “I was feeling bad because we had mothers from Canada who have kids coming over looking for details of this years games and we didn’t have an answer for them. But now I think it will go ahead.” The group then received additional funding from the Minerals Trust which supports local projects.
The event is set for Cumnock’s Broomfield Playing Fields on Sunday August 23.
