The Chronicle reported last month how Moureen Jones was selected as this years Citizen of the Year following serious discussions.
From all of the nominations received the Committee felt that Moureen was the most worthy of this year’s Award.
Moureen retired several years ago following an illustrious career in nursing and has continued to display her caring for her others in many ways. Moureen who is retired meets regularly with the Ayrshire and Arran Branch of the MS Group and carries out home visits as and when required on behalf of the branch.
For the last 20 years Moureen has been a local volunteer collecting clothing on behalf of ‘Glasgow the Caring City’ which supplies goods to countries affected by disasters.
Moureen was officially presented the award on Friday April 24 from Provost Jim Todd and East Ayrshire Council Chief Executive, Fiona Lees.
In a letter to the Chronicle Moureen said: “I have been truly overwhelmed by the sincerity of well wishers, even from people I don’t know stopping to speak. The cards and flowers received have been very much appreciated. To me it shows what a supportive community I live in. This has been a truly humbling experience.
“Thank you to the Cumnock Citizen of the Year Committee, Provost Jim Todd, Chief Executive Fiona Lees and all others involved.”
