A CUMNOCK resident has turned to the Chronicle in a bid to get a phoneline installed at her new home after we helped one Mauchline couple get theirs fitted.

Mrs Margaret Robertson moved in to the newly built houses on Ayr Road - just yards away from the former Chronicle offices - in January and she is STILL waiting to have her phone lines installed.

The Chronicle reported last month how one couple who moved in to newly built houses on Gilbert Burns Place, Mauchline had been left without a phone lines for three months.

Following an enquiry from the Chronicle, BT were quick in fitting the lines.

Now Mrs Robertson is hopefully that the Chronicle can help her achieve the same.

She said: “It’s terrible. I rely on my phone a lot as I am involved in various groups so I need my phone to keep in touch.

“I spoke to East Ayrshire Council and I was told that it’s BT’s responsibility.” Mrs Robertson was initially told the lines would be installed back in February. Now she has been quoted an updated installation of May 5 - an astonishing FOUR months after being given the keys to the brand new house.

A spokesperson from BT revealed to the Chronicle that the delay has been caused due to the complex nature of the job.

They said: “We’re sorry for the delay in providing phones services at this new development.

This is a complex engineering job involving excavations, the unblocking of existing and the building of 40 metres of new underground chambers, as well as the laying of 40 metres of new cabling.

“Our engineers are working hard to complete the work as quickly as possible.

“We’ve been in contact with Mrs Robertson to update her on progress.” Alistair Kidd, Senior Projects and Capital Accounting Manager, East Ayrshire Council said: “Appropriate ducting / cabling from the new houses to a BT junction box outwith the development has been provided by the contractor ready for BT engineers to connect this junction box up to the network.

“There will be no need for any excavation within the site of the new homes.”
