CUMNOCK is set to host its very own film festival, the Chronicle can exclusively reveal.

An announcement is imminent regarding the top-secret plans, which will see the proud town become a mecca for film fans the world over.

The event is due to be unveiled this month, with the first festival taking place in Spring next year.

And top-notch celebrities have already been lined up to support the launch of Scotland’s latest art event. Ewan McGregor, Tilda Swinton and Peter Capaldi have already been lined up to appear.

And organisers are hopeful that a Hollywood ‘A’ lister could be persuaded to back the event.

Robert De Niro, who has links with the Tribeca film festival in New York, is rumoured to be heading Cumnock’s way.

Details remain hush-hush for the event, but it is believed the event could span four days and feature a combination of home-grown and international film talent.

Other celebrities and film fans are expected to descend on the town.

The Chronicle tracked down festival organiser, Avril Tromper, and she told us: “We are very excited about this event and have been in talks regarding several venue locations, including Cumnock Town Hall and Dumfries House.

“We hope the people of Cumnock turn out and get to see the big stars on their doorstep. Mark April 1, 2016, in your calendar now.”
