William Letford who is from Stirling will be based in Mauchline for a five week period.

The aim of the residency is to make Burns House Museum and Mauchline an inspiration for new poetry and creativity, just as the town inspired Robert Burns in the 1780s.

William’s work has been heavily influenced by the world of work. This is no airy-fairy poet of our imagination, he has worked as a roofer - this has been one of his creative reservoirs for his poetry - as well as studying creative writing and becoming a published poet. He is keen to engage with the people of Mauchline and will meet them on the streets and get to know the area rather than being confined to the museum environment.

William will also work with Mauchline Primary School across the period of his stay. The class will attend workshops at Burns House and will help him compose a new a poem during this period. Burns House is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
