Working with volunteers who attend exercise classes on a weekly basis, HND Health and Fitness students are getting the benefit of experiencing real-time classes with the public.
Most people as they get older benefit from keeping in touch with their community, friends and neighbours, and being active is a way to ensure that they can keep doing that. The college course highlights the benefits of taking part in exercise classes, improving health and wellbeing, increase confidence, as well as being enjoyable.
David Malcolm, course lecturer, said: “The classes are delivered on a one-to-one basis and are a great introduction for students to health and fitness issues with the older adults client group. "As well as developing a good relationship with the clients that volunteer for the fitness programme, the students gain a stronger understanding of fitness assessments, fitness testing and dietary analysis.” Student Naomi Leitch added: “ Working with older adults is very rewarding. I love the fact that the exercise class really makes an impact on their health and lives. "The class focuses on tailored exercise for each individual and I enjoy being part of their fitness journey. The course has given me the confidence to train, motivate and help clients achieve their fitness and health goals.” Visit www.ayrshire.ac.uk or call 0300 303 0303 to find out about sport courses at Ayrshire College.
