COMMUNITY pharmacies in East Ayrshire can help you battle the winter blues with a healthy dose of good advice over the festive holiday period.

They can answer questions on choosing and using the right medicine and provide easy-to-understand advice on treating everyday ailments such as coughs, colds and flu. NHS 24 also has a number of community pharmacists who are able to answer medicine and pharmacy-related questions over the telephone on 111.

Anyone who qualifies for the minor ailments service, may be prescribed medication by a community pharmacist, following a consultation.

Over Christmas, GP practices will be closed for four days from Christmas Day until Monday December 29, but during this time people can still get advice from their community pharmacist.

On Wednesday December 24, all pharmacies will open as normal, however Doon Valley Pharmacy, Dalmellington. will close at 5.30pm.

All pharmacies will be closed on Christmas Day, except Lloyds, 16 Central Avenue, Kilmarnock, which will open between 11am and 1pm, and Morrisons, West Langlands Street, Kilmarnock, from 1pm to 3pm.

On Boxing Day all pharmacies will be again be closed except Boots, 62/70 King Street, Kilmarnock, which will open between 9am and 5pm.

Normal weekend opening hours will apply for all pharmacies on Saturday December 27, and Sunday December 28.
