Local MP Cathy Jamieson attended the launch of the WellChild manifesto at the House of Commons in Westminster.

WellChild, the national charity for sick children, has developed a manifesto with three key priorities for improving care for children and young people in the UK.

Firstly, they want to ensure that all seriously ill children have access to high quality nursing support and medical care in hospitals.

They also want to make sure that children are fully supported in their journey from hospital to home, so that, wherever possible, they are cared for in an environment in which they feel comfortable and secure.

Finally, they want to ensure that parents and carers of children and young people with serious illnesses or complex care needs have access to the full range of care and practical support they need when caring for their child at home.

Cathy said: "Ensuring that children and young people who are sick have the care they need is crucial and should be a national priority. That is why I was glad to be able to attend the launch of the WellChild manifesto, which I fully endorse.

As the manifesto states, it is absolutely vital that hospital care for children and young people is accessible and of a consistent high standard across the country. It is also important that, wherever possible, children and young people are cared for at home, in an environment in which they feel safe, secure and comfortable.

However, in order to facilitate that, we must ensure that parents and carers have the support they need to cater for complex care needs and deliver a full range of care."
