AYSHIRE COLLEGE has reduced its Cumnock Campus to a three day working week.

The college says that a dip of enrolment figures has forced the move.

The Cumnock Campus, previously part of Ayr College, will now be closed on Mondays and Fridays.

The move has not forced the college to cancel or re-locate any courses. They have all been rescheduled to be in session between Tuesday and Thursday.

The Chronicle received information that staff at the Cumnock campus feared for their futures as a result of the change and also feared that they may be relocated to another campus.

However, a statement from the college confirmed that the campus will have an new intake of students in the new year.

A spokesperson for Ayrshire College said: “Ayrshire College’s Cumnock Campus is open three days a week due to a reduction in the take up of places on current courses.

“Residents have a wide choice of courses available on other campuses in Ayr, Kilmarnock and elsewhere in Ayrshire.

“In January we hope to run the following additional courses in Cumnock: Hairdressing (Level 4), Beauty (Level 4), Early Education and Childcare (Level 4) and PEZ and PEZ Plus.” Lecturing staff at the college work across all of Ayrshire College’s campuses. It remains unclear the effect the change will have on other staff.

Ayrshire College was formed following a merger between Ayr College, Kilmarnock College and the Largs and Kilwinning campuses of James Watt College, and serves the Ayrshire area, surrounding areas and overseas students.

The college offers all the courses previously provided by its legacy institutions. Plans are underway to construct a new campus at Kilmarnock which is scheduled to open in 2016.
