GLENAFTON are in red hot form and it has all come in the wake of manager Tommy Bryce cursing his side’s poor finish.

Glens kicked off the campaign with three defeats in their opening four games which led the gaffer to demand better finishing from his strikers, and it seems to have paid off.

Glens are now on a five game winning streak and seemingly scoring for fun.

The New Cumnock side hammered Kilbirnie Ladeside 5-0 at home on Saturday as they romped to as easy victory - making it 18 goals in the last five matches.

The Glens boss is now hoping his squad can build on their form through the winter.

Speaking to the Chronicle, Bryce said: “It was an excellent result for us on Saturday. We have been playing well in recent week. The first half on Saturday was a wee bit nip and tuck but we showed our class in the second half.” A month ago, Bryce was at a loss to explain his side’s lacklustre start to the season and pointed to a lack of clinical finishing.

Now the Loch Park boys have made the gaffer eat his own words as they have struck searingly hot form in front of goal.

Goals from Aaron Connolly, Daniel Orsi, Alain Kinney and an Adam Strachan brace helped them send Kilbirnie packing.

Since losing to Beith on September 27, Glens have bagged the Ardagh Glass Cup against Talbot, sealed their spot in the next round of the West of Scotland and Scottish Cups and secured back to back league victories in the Premier Division.

Bryce said: “I’ve been happy with the way we’ve defended this season, we’ve done pretty well. Maybe towards the start of the season we didn’t score anywhere near as many as we should but we’re banging the goal in now which is pleasing.

“We’ve been working hard on our finishing in training and it’s paying off for us now. We didn’t start too badly, with a win in the opening game but we had a bit of a slump after that and now we are finding some form.

“The cup will have given the boys a lift, especially since it was against Talbot, the confidence is starting to flow a bit now and it has given them a bit of belief so long may it continue.” Bryce’s side are now set to visit Portland Park on Saturday as they entertain Premier Division new boys, Troon.

He said: “Obviously they are new to the division and they might find it a bit tough going to begin with but we are under no illusions, we are expecting a difficult game but we are confident that we can keep our run going and we just have to keep putting the ball in the net.” Bryce was boosted by the return of skipper, Craig Menzies, at the weekend following a spell on the side lines with an ankle injury. He said: “Craig is a big player for us, but the boys have coped well without him, but it’s a boost to have him back fit, it gives us options now.” Glens face Troon at Portland Park on Saturday with a 2pm kick off.
