IT has been revealed that a fault at a local pumping station may have caused floods in Rankinston that led East Ayrshire Council to declare it an emergency situation.

The Chronicle told last week how residents on Kerse Terrace and Coyle Crescent were subject to burst water mains, with some properties being severly damaged by flooding.

On Friday October 10 two properties on Kerse Terrace became affected by the damage, on Saturday October 11 a further four properties were impacted and on Sunday October 12 SEVEN properties were hit plus another three on Coyle Crescent.

The Council declared it an emergency situation and decided to step in on October 12.

Now in a statement Scottish Water have said: “Scottish Water investigated the matter and established that, following a fault at a pumping station, the water pressure in the local network increased and could have caused burst pipes in some properties.

“We have explained what happened to the affected customers and apologised for any inconvenience caused.”
