A NEW Cumnock man was inspired by the sacrifice of a local girl to face the scissors for charity.

Local stonemason, Les Balfour saw the Chronicle’s story about 17-year-old Auchinleck Academy pupil, Fiona Taylor, who had 14 inches cut from her crowning glory for the Little Princess Trust - supported by Jessie J.

The hair will be made into a wig for a child who has lost their hair through cancer treatment.

Now Les is keen to match Fiona’s feat by having his own barnet chopped in the name of charity.

Les said: “There’s a young Cumnock lad who suffers from Spina Bifida called Sam Bickerton who I have decided to try and raise some money for to help him and his parents out.

“I’m badly needing a haircut and I decided that when I was getting it cut it would be for charity. I was determined that I wasn’t going to do it for one of these big charities where the money could go anywhere, I decided I’d help somebody local.

“I’m under pressure from the boys from my darts team to get it cut so I will do it for charity and they can say what they like.” Les has also opted to donate his hair to the Little Princess Trust as well.
