AN AUCHINLECK football charity is set to hit the air waves as it welcomes BBC Radio Scotland’s best known voices from the world of football.

Former footy ref Charlie Richmond, pictured right, and four colleagues joined up to start the Auchinleck Talbot Community Football Foundation (ATCFF) which was set up to tackle hate among youngsters.

The Chronicle reported in September how the project will try and stem the intense rivalry between two local communities - after the organiser were inspired to take action after witnessing a bitter war of words among seven-year-olds.

ATCFF’s principal purpose is to provide the benefit of children, young people and adults in Auchinleck and the surrounding areas, without distinction of political, religious or other options by assisting the local authorities, statutory bodies, voluntary organisations and residents in an effort to boost public participation in football.

It also aims to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and other leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for children, young people and adults in the area.

They are currently running a project to tackle issues of tribalism and territorialism between the two communities in bringing them together by playing football and various other workshops which involves interaction with the local police and the making of a DVD which the schools were involved with last year along with both junior football teams.

As the project has grown, it has caught the attention of BBC chiefs who proposed a collaboration with the charity.

After a conversation they have agreed to host a coaching session with pupils at both Auchinleck and Cumnock Academies. The session is planned for Tuesday November 11 at Auchinleck Academy Astro turf pitch, where pupils will participate in a football coaching session led by professional players both current and past, Kris Boyd, Michael Stewart, Billy Dodds and Derek Ferguson to name but a few.

Later that same day in the Auchinleck Academy assembly hall an audience of 200 made up of kids who participated in the coaching along with their parents and guardians and members of the public will participate in a live Question and Answer broadcast on the radio with invited guests, managers of both junior football teams and BBC pundits.

The live broadcast will be from 6.10pm until 7pm on Radio Scotland.
