SCOTTISH Water is still investigating a series of burst water mains which saw homes flooded in Rankinston almost two weeks ago.

And their official statement insists they’ve received only one report, despite East Ayrshire Council ramping it up to an emergency.

The issue mainly affected Kerse Terrace and Coyle Crescent in the village.

On Friday October 10 two properties on Kerse Terrace became affected by the damage, on Saturday October 11 a further four properties were impacted and on Sunday October 12 SEVEN properties were hit plus another three on Coyle Crescent.

The Council declared it an emergency situation and decided to step in on October 12.

In a statement, EAC confirmed: “On Friday October 10 it became clear to East Ayrshire Council that there was a serious issue within Rankinston, with burst water mains and high mains water pressure affecting properties within the village.

“This matter escalated significantly over the weekend and on Sunday October 12, the Council took action to help mitigate possible devastation or serious damage to a large number of properties.

“Officers from the Council attended and organised for plumbers, drinking water and electrical checks on properties which had been flooded or affected by flood water.

“A contractor was also engaged to pump out flooded solumns.

“The Council tried at all times to elevate issues as they arose and keep both owners and tenants informed as matters developed.

“Numerous calls to Scottish Water over the weekend period led to a specialist from the company attending to assess the problem on Tuesday October 14.” Angry residents have been looking for answers over the fiasco from Scottish Water, who simply said in a statement: “Scottish Water has been contacted by a customer regarding a private issue in Kerse Terrace, Rankinston and is currently investigating the matter.” A Scottish Water spokesperson confirmed that they are still investigating the cause the of destruction and hope to get to the bottom of the issue by the end of the week.
