Ayrshire Maternity Unit’s Neonatal Unit has received a generous donation thanks to the efforts of a brave 11 year old girl.

Nicole Shearer from Kilmarnock volunteered to have almost 11 inches cut off her long hair to give to the Little Princess Trust, who provide wigs for children who have lost their hair. Nicole raised £300 by braving the chop and chose to donate it to the Neonatal Unit as her two year old brother, Khodi, received care there when he was born.

Caroline Blake, Clinical Midwife Manager for the Neonatal Unit, commented: “We would like to thank Nicole so very much for this wonderful donation that will help us look after the babies in our unit. She is a very special girl and has been extremely brave to cut her hair, benefitting not just ourselves but also the Little Princess Trust in the process.”
