The Referendum on September 18 is perhaps one of the most important votes Scots have ever been asked to cast.

But to have your voice heard, you must be registered to vote.

Cathy bJamieson MP said: "As we approach the date of the referendum, a number of constituents have contacted me to ask about registering to vote and how to obtain postal votes.

"In order to have a vote in the referendum your name must be on the Electoral Register."

Cathy urges everyone eligible to ensure that their names are on the register.

- If you are not already registered to vote, and are aged 18 or over, your voter registration form must be submitted to the Electoral Registration Office no later than Tuesday 2 September.

- Young people aged 16 and 17 who are not yet on the Register can fill in a Young Persons Voter Registration form, which must be returned to the Electoral Registration Office by midnight on Wednesday 3 September 2014.

- Applications for Postal Votes must be received in the Electoral Registration Office no later than 5pm on Wednesday, 3 September 2014.

Please note that the Electoral Registration Office address is: 9 Wellington Square, Ayr, KA7 1HL If you are unsure if you are on the electoral register, you can check at your local library.
