The Scottish SPCA’s Ayrshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre is appealing to find a home for one of their longest canine residents.

Max, a five-year-old Patterdale terrier cross, has been with the Mainholm based centre for over 120 days and longs to find a human companion.

Assistant manager at the centre, Lynda Hourston, said, “Max came into our care as a happy little guy but the longer he has been here the more distressed and anxious he has become. “When he was in his kennel he began to compulsively lick his chest and drool excessively. He also tore up all of his bedding several times a day.

“Our staff tried various calming methods to make Max feel less anxious but nothing seemed to work.

“As another option we decided to let him spend the night in our staff room away from all the other dogs and, as a result, Max has immediately calmed down and his behaviour has definitely improved.

“We think it’s solely the kennel that upsets him and this is why we’re particularly keen to find him the loving new home he deserves.” Lynda added, “Max is a fantastic boy and is very friendly, affectionate and loves nothing more than snuggling up to people. He also enjoys playing with his toys and is partial to a good game of fetch.

“Max would prefer to live in a house with no cats but may be able to live with another dog as long as they were successfully introduced at our centre.

“The right home for Max must be out there and we really want to see him find happiness.” Anyone who can offer Max a new home is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA’s Ayrshire centre on 03000 999 999.
