PREPARATIONS for this year’s Cumnock 10k are running smoothly - now organisers are praying they are not let down by elements outwith their control.
The 2013 race was marred by torrential rain which saw competitors drenched from head to toe.
And while dozens of brave runners took part, the weather had an impact on numbers and certainly the enjoyment of many of those competing.
But as organisers gear up for the September 21 event they are hoping for a little bit of luck this time around.
David Weir - who relaunched the race in 2012 - said: “Last year we had no luck with the weather and we probably couldn’t have got a worse day for the competitors.
“There isn’t much we can do about that but lets just hope it’s a bit kinder to us this year.
“This will be the third year I’ve been doing it and it’s getting bigger and better every year.” As well as the 10k race, there will be a 5k race which also starts at Visions Leisure Centre.
Little ones will also be accomodated with the 'teddy toddle’ race around the athletics track.
David added: “That gives toddler groups a chance to take part and race funds for their group.
“It’s a real family affair and hopefully we get the usual mix of runners to come out and support a great community event.” The race starts at 10am and application forms can be collected from Donsports or Vision Leisure Centre.
