John Beck has decided to end his career with Ayrshire Cancer Support after 13 years in the post; he will be leaving at the end of July.

John joined ACS in 2001 following his retiral as Chief Inspector with Strathclyde Police where he served for 30 years. Originally from Dalmellington John lives in Ayr with his wife Joyce; they have two grown up children and 2 grandchildren Emma and Scott.

Commenting on his impending retirement John said 'It has been an honour to work with ACS and our many committed staff and volunteers. The people of Ayrshire are fortunate to have such a caring organisation to help them in their time of need and our aim has always been to ensure that help was readily available to everyone in Ayrshire who needed it.'   'I am pleased how the charity has progressed over the years to become an integral and respected organisation providing practical help and emotional support to those affected by cancer. It has been a team effort and I thank all my staff for their professionalism and dedication over the years especially Dr Laura Dodds, who until recently was Chair of the Board and Janie Riddick, our General Manager who have both been with me from day one.'   'During my time I have received help and co-operation from many people and organisations throughout the county. This is something I greatly appreciate and it has helped me to take the organisation to where it is today. ACS has played a big part in my life over the last 13 years and also in my family's life and it will continue to do so. I have mixed emotions about leaving but now is the proper time for me to go'.

John will be succeeded by Sandra McCall from Prestwick who has served ACS for the past 4 years as a volunteer board director.
