CUMNOCK needs a new queen.

The organisers of this year’s Carnival have thrown open nominations for this year’s Royal Party - and they need names soon.

Positions are open to primary 7 and third year pupils for the following roles: Queen - Cumnock Academy Attendant - Cumnock Academy Herald - Netherthird Primary Prince/ss - Logan Primary Prince/ss - Greenmill Primary Prince/ss - Hillside Primary Prince/ss - Barshare Primary.

Any pupils wishing to apply will be able to get an application form from their school. These should be completed and returned to the school by Tuesday May 6.

The Carnival takes place on Saturday June 14 and already has a variety of performers confirmed, including a fire display from Joseph Peace.

There will also be birds of prey flying displays, pony rides, stilt walkers and music and dance from Muirkirk pipe band, She Boom Samba Band, Black Star Street Drummers, Desi Brave Hearts – Bollywood Style Dance Troup, additional stage performances and many other attractions.

Provisions have been made to stop the show being cancelled due to poor weather conditions. Alternative arrangements are in, with alternative arrangements in place to host the attractions.

Last year’s Queen was crowned in Cumnock town hall when torrential rain prevented the fun taking place in Woodroad Park.
