TALENTED musicians from Greenmill Primary School are set for a gig in London.

The primary seven orchestra, which came second in the Ayshire Music Festival, will travel to the Houses of Parliament to promote the Cumnock Tryst.

The excited youngsters have worked hard to raise funds for the trip.

They recently held their own concert which raised over £1000 and they have also been given a helping hand by generous local businesses.

One pupil remarked: “I’m really excited to go to London and the Houses of Parliament.” The lucky youngsters recognise they have the chance to impress, with one young musicians saying: “It’s a great opportunity to show everybody our string project.

“It will be a good chance to sho people how we co-operate at school.” The kids head to London on July 23.

• The Cumnock Tryst is a new festival of music which will take place in Cumnock from October 2-5. Artistic Director and Founder James MacMillan grew up in Cumnock and is now one of the world’s leading composers. Acclaimed violinist, Nicola Benedetti, also from Ayrshire, is Patron of the Festival.

With four days of concerts in venues including two lovely churches in Cumnock, the impressive Town Hall and the stunning Dumfries House, The Cumnock Tryst will feature international classical artists, as well as music and musicians from a variety of backgrounds. Two strong traditions of musical life in Cumnock have been brass music and choral music and these two strands will be running themes in The Cumnock Tryst.

The opening concert will be given by one of the finest choirs in the world and another event that weekend will be of immense significance to the thriving brass band world of Ayrshire and beyond.
