Building Banter, the East Ayrshire forum for the construction industry welcomed Alex Neil MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure and Capital Investment as their special guest speaker to this month's breakfast meeting. Mr. Neil spoke and took questions on a range of topics, including procurement in the construction industry, infrastructure investment, construction and housing, regeneration and new initiatives.

Richard Neilson, founder of Building Banter said "Building Banter is a valuable forum for the local construction sector, helping build relationships, create new ones and keep everyone up to date with developments and opportunities in the pipeline. We always enjoy learning from our key speakers and Mr Neil's visit provided a valuable opportunity for a discussion on the challenges and opportunities we face."

Alex Neil said: "I strongly support groups like Building Banter which provide East Ayrshire businesses with a platform to learn about new contracts and share experiences with other industry players. Investing in infrastructure projects is one of the primary ways to create jobs and stimulate growth in our economy. For every £100 million of capital that is invested here in Scotland, 1400 jobs are supported and £160 million of economic activity is generated."

Councillor Douglas Reid, Chairman of the 'Make it Kilmarnock' Initiative, said, "We were very pleased to welcome the Cabinet Minister back to Kilmarnock, a town with a proud industrial and commercial history. Building Banter brings together so many influential people and we welcomed the opportunity for the group to hear the latest from the Cabinet Secretary in relation to the construction sector."

Local MSP Willie Coffey said: "Richard Neilson and the Building Banter team have worked extremely hard to put this forum together. I am delighted that the Cabinet Secretary Alex Neil took the time to attend our tenth meeting - it means a great deal to local businesses. His expert input is greatly appreciated."

Building Banter is a networking forum for the construction sector. The informal meetings are held monthly at The Long House in Kilmarnock, (8.00am - 10.00am). They feature key speakers and networking opportunities. For more details contact: Richard Neilson, Quantum Solutions (richard@quantumsol.co.uk)
