Fears grow over village church's future

THE CATHOLIC church this week admitted they could close down a chapel in an Upper Nithsdale village - forcing parishioners to travel 30 miles to attend their weekly service.

And the worried congregation were due to meet this week to protest against the plans to shut St Conel's in Kelloholm.

The proposals have been put forward by the Diocese of Galloway as they look to streamline their operation due to the falling number of priests and parishioners in the local area.
