The A71, A76 and A77 were all closed on Thursday night in the area surrounding the Bellfield Interchange, Kilmarnock due to excessive floodwater from adjacent fields flowing south of Kirklandside onto the bridge and roundabout interchange.

As a result the roads and the BP garage at Bellfield were also closed.

Diversions were in operation to allow a full inspection of the bridges. Traffic in Kilmarnock were subject to long delays.

East Ayrshire Council worked with AMEY/Transport Scotland to resolve this situation.

The village of Sorn has also been affected by flooding and East Ayrshire Council are working to alleviate problems there.
