Flushed chemicals from fire may have killed fish

A NUMBER of dead fish were found washed up on the River Lugar following a fire on the Dumfries Estate.

Environmental experts believe that farm chemicals, including nitrogen which is poisonous to fish, may have got mixed in with water which was used to tackle a blaze at Morrison's Farm last month.

Investigators from the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) said it was hard to be sure of the exact cause of the problem due to heavy rain which washed away any evidence.
