DOON Academy shot to the top of the class - scooping a prestigous award for an innovatibe literacy scheme.

Judges at the Scottish Education Awards praised the Dalmellington school for it's work in adressing the needs of youngsters whoe were struggling to keep up with reading and writing.

Teachers Doreen Murray and Aileen Wood, along with East Ayrshire support worker Lynne McDowall took S1 pupils out of their normal timetables for intensive two period a week classes - enough to win them a Literacy Across Learning Award.
