Objectors make noise over opencast sites

TWO opencast giants have been given the go-ahead to expand their operations - though they have had to give assurances about future noise limits.

Local residents called the current system for measuring the noise off the mining sites "unworkable" after council bosses admitted that they couldn't measure the noise when it was wet or windy.

Scottish Coal will be expanding their Burnston Remainder site - while Kier Construction have been given the greenlight to continue work at their Greenburn Project near New Cumnock for another eight years.
