EIGHT schools across Cumnock and Doon Valley are to receive a £70,000 cash injection to boost safety on the journey to school.

Concerns regarding traffic management issues at Auchinleck Academy, Catrine Primary, Cumnock Academy, Dalrymple Primary, Doon Academy, Dalmellington Primary, Mauchline Primary and Netherthird Primary saw East Ayrshire Council's Cabinet committee last week agree to put an action plan in place.

In a report to elected members, EAC Education chief Graham Short said: "A number of locations have been identified where, despite a wide range of interventions via the individual school including publicity campaigns, reorganising traffic flow, reviews of school transport, pupil awareness and road safety training, specific concerns remain."
