LOCAL man David Weir says he was inspired to organise a 10k race in Cumnock from the jaw-dropping views at the top of Kilimanjaro.

The 37-year-old climbed the highest peak of Africa last summer and decided it was time to do something closer to home after catching the adrenaline bug.

And on September 9 he will get his wish when 500 runners descend on his home town to take part in the inaugural event.

He said "I climbed Kilimanjaro last year and it was quite simply an amazing experience. I really wanted to keep up my fitness and decided to try and bring something to Cumnock."
