Ayrshire Athletics Arena - facility is on its marks!
The countdown is on for the official opening of the Ayrshire Athletics Arena - South West Scotland's newly completed premier athletics and sports facility.
The AAA will be officially opened amidst a huge fanfare with the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Kilmarnock on Friday 8 June and many lucky youngsters from schools across East Ayrshire are being given the opportunity to be part of this unique event.
700 local primary school pupils will welcome the Torch into the arena with a performance from Summer of Song entitled, The Flame Burns Brightly, which was especially composed for the Olympic Torch Relay. 950 secondary pupils will participate in a variety of sports including rugby, archery and weightlifting to showcase the outstanding facilities on offer at the arena, before lining the new track to watch the unique spectacle as the Torch as it arrives.
A special Family Open Weekend for the new Ayrshire Athletics Arena on Queens Drive, Kilmarnock has been organised for Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 June to give communities an opportunity to see all that this spectacular new facility has to offer. The event will run from 11am - 2pm on both days. On Saturday 9 June, visitors will be able to try athletics, cricket and football, while on Sunday 10 June people with additional learning and physical support needs can try Racerunning, all ability cycles, athletics and Boccia.
